Mohawk hardwood flooring When it comes to natural beauty it's hard to beat the look and warmth of a real hardwood flooring. Like most floor covering products hardwood flooring has changed dramatically over the past few years and we carry all the latest hardwood styles in our showroom. From 3/4" solid oak, maple, and other hardwood species, to the prefinished engineered or longstrip flooring, we can help you choose the right hardwood floor for your decor, and lifestyle.

Hardwood flooring comes in 4 basic constructions:

  • 3/4" solid flooring (unfinished, or pre-finished)
  • engineered (unfinished, or pre-finished)
  • longstrip (pre-finished)
  • parquet (unfinished, or pre-finished)
Hardwood Floor The engineered and longstrip hardwood floors can be installed on any level of the home, including in the basement if moisture isn't present. They can also glued down, floated over, or nailed down to most the subfloors. While the 3/4" solid hardwood floors are generally recommended for above grade installation only, and have to be nailed to the subfloor. Any of these floors can be refinished if they become severely scratched, or dull from normal wear and tear.

  • Don't Wet Mop - Never wet mop your wood floor, this can severally damage your floor's finsh. Use only the manufacturer's recommended cleaning products and procedures.
  • Vacuum Regularly - vacuum or sweep your floor often to remove sand, grit, and dirt from becoming built up and damaging your floor's finish.
  • Use Proper Pads - to help reduce scrathes and dents to your floor use protective pads under all furniture legs. Make sure all pads are kept clean and free of grit and sand.
  • Don't Use Soaps - Many of the over-the-counter oil soaps, and wax based cleaning products may damage and dull your wood floor's finish. Only use the manufacturers recommended cleaning products on your hardwood flooring.
  • Trim Pet's Claws - Pet's claws may scratch you floors finish. Regularly trim dog's claws to help reduce scratching your floor's finish.
  • Wipe Spills Immediately - when accidents do happen and something gets spilled on your hardwood floor you should wipe it up immediately with a slightly damp white cloth, or paper towel and then thoroughly dry the area. For more difficult spots, follow the manufacturer's recommended cleaning procedures.
  • Protect from Direct Sunlight - your wood floor may change color or fade due to exposure to direct sunlight. The sun's UV rays accelerates the oxidation and aging of wood so periodically rearranging your furniture and closing the curtains during intense periods of sunlight can help avoid the problem.
